Egypt's air force foiled an attempt by "criminal elements'' to illegally enter the country via the western border, the armed forces announced on Thursday. Air forces acting on intelligence reports launched a mission on the Egyptian-Libyan border, targeting and destroying 10 4x4 vehicles carrying weapons, ammunition and smuggled materials. Army forces are currently in pursuit to arrest the criminal elements, according to a statement by the army's spokesman. Egypt's border with Libya has been the site of arms smuggling, militant activity, and crossing by irregular migrants, since the fall of the Gaddafi regime in 2011.
