Egypt will be “the starting point” for reorganising the Libyan army, the Egyptian military announced on Tuesday. "The sons of the Libyan Armed Forces have chosen Egypt to be the starting point of reorganizing the country's army, as it was at its initial foundation," the Egyptian armed forces' spokesman said in a statement on his Facebook page. On Sunday, Egypt hosted a Egyptian-Libyan committee meeting, headed by the Egyptian army's chief of staff Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazi, as well as the meetings of the joint military communication committee, where a range of Libyan military officials discussed why the Libyan armed forces has faced a crisis affecting its development and unity over the past seven years. Both sides agreed on the formation of joint technical committees to discuss the mechanism of unifying the Libyan army, with the meetings are to be held in Cairo as soon as possible. Attendants at the meeting stressed a number of “national constants” required by the necessity of preserving the unity of the armed forces, maintaining the country's security and safety, countering all forms of extremism and terrorism, and rejecting foreign intervention in the Libya's affairs, according to the statement. The meeting also stressed the importance of maintaining the professionalism of the Libyan army as a national entity and enhancing its capabilities away from any ideological, political or factional affiliation. Attendants also stressed the importance of supporting the political course as the cornerstone of achieving security and stability in the North African country.
