Naema's Office Is Bleeding, an exhibition of selected works from a collage and painting workshop of the same name led by artist Hany Rashed, opened today at Medrar and runs till 14 September. This is the third edition of the workshop and exhibition, the first of which was held in 2015, attracting more participants with each year. The workshop leading up to the exhibition was held between 5 and 19 August, and aimed to offer "a unique experience of getting introduced to traditional collage techniques, experimenting with and exploring new and contemporary techniques through the use of colours, newspaper clippings, magazines, glue and cardboard to create different creative compositions," according to the description by Medrar. The 29 exhibiting artists at Naema's Office is Bleeding are Ahmed Laithey, Ahmed Swilam, Amira Fahmy, Aya El-Sayed, Aya Saleh, Dalia Galal, Eman Abdel-Rahman, Eman Zahran, Engy Mohsen, Eslam Mohamed, Gilan hefny, Hussein Abdullah, Layla El-Farouk, Mahmoud Magdi, Manar Gad, Menna El-Azzamy, Merna Ashraf Imam, Mahmoud Hosseini Ahmed, Nesreen Mamdouh, Noura Kamal, Nouran Mohamed, Rana Samir, Riham Kassem, Roisin Wanas, Sally Samy, Salma Shehattah, Sara Saed, Shahira Kamal, Shaimaa Samir, and Yasmine Jaamea. The artworks will be for sale at nominal prices. Born in Cairo in 1975, Rashed is a well-established self-taught artist who was mentored by renowned artist Mohamed Abla. Rashed regularly gives painting and collage classes at several venues, including the Soma Art School and Gallery. He experiments with different techniques but is best-known for a distinct style of painting and collage that draws from media imagery to critique excessive exposure to Western media. After the Egypt's 2011 Revolution, Rashed was immersed in documenting contemporary Egyptian history through his artwork and through a social media page titled ‘Contemporary Art,' which has gained popularity within the art scene.
