Egypt's Sisi wraps up Gulf visit with messages of commitment to Bahrain's security
Published in Ahram Online on 09 - 05 - 2017

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi concluded his visit to Bahrain on Tuesday, having reaffirmed Cairo's commitment to the security of allied Gulf states and wishes for continued close cooperation, state-run news agency MENA reported on Tuesday.
The Bahrain trip was the second stop in a two-nation mini-tour of the Gulf, taking in Kuwait earlier this week. In late April, he visited Saudi Arabia and the UAE, delivering similar messages of cooperation.
While in Bahrain, the Egyptian president met with King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa and top Bahraini officials to discuss the strengthening of bilateral ties and ongoing security issues, stating that the security of Egypt depends on that of the Gulf.
Before wrapping up the visit on Tuesday, El-Sisi also met with Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla, the speaker of Bahrain's parliament. El-Sisi told Al-Mulla that Cairo places a high priority on supporting Manama and preserving the security and stability of all Gulf nations, according to a statement from Egyptian presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef.
The Egyptian president expressed his appreciation for Bahrain's stances in support of Egypt, affirming Cairo's keenness to boost coordination between the two countries, especially on the level of the national parliaments. Al-Mulla said that El-Sisi's visit represents the strengthening of relations between the two nations at all levels.
He added that his country "takes pride in its historical ties with Egypt, commending the Republics' role in protecting the security and stability of Bahrain and Arab region and its contributions to bolstering the unity of Arab States," describing it as a model for coexistence and national unity," according to the official statement.
He also underlined the importance of continued coordination between the two countries, especially in the field of combating terrorism, a message he has delivered to heads of state during all his recent Gulf visits.
On Sunday, El-Sisi told Kuwait's emir Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah that Egypt will not allow foreign nations to undermine the security of its "brother countries" in the Gulf.
