Art Alert: Two days of Dominican films at Cervantes Institute in Cairo
Published in Ahram Online on 13 - 04 - 2017

A selection of Dominican films will be screened at the Cervantes Institute in Cairo on 19 and 20 April.
Two documentaries will be screened on 19 April: Nana and Carribbean Fantasy.
Directed by Tatiana Fernández, Nana takes an intimate look at three nannies who, away from their own children, are each caring for somebody else's child.
Caribbean Fantasy is directed by Johanne Gomez. Set at the banks of the Ozama River in Santo Domingo, the film centres on Ruddy the boatman and his evangelist lover, Morena. Their love has been cursed with poverty, reflecting the symptoms of an eroded society.
The film was screened in Egypt at the 18th Ismailia International Film Festival. It has won Best Short Film Documentary at the Havana Film Festival and the ÓPERA PRIMA award at the MiradasDoc International Documentary Film Festival.
The following day the film La Gunguna, directed by Ernesto Alemany will be screened.
The action film presents a number of stories behind a .22 caliber pistol which brings bad luck and misfortune to any person in possession of it.
The programme is co-organised with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Egypt.
All screenings are free.
