Star winger Mahmoud Shikabala will miss his second Cairo derby in less than two months after Zamalek coach Mohamed Helmi left him out of the side who will take on Ahly in the Egyptian Super Cup on Friday. The 30-year-old, who is enjoying a fine season with three goals and five assists in Zamalek's first 13 league matches, was not named in the team's 24-man squad despite not suffering from any injuries. His exclusion comes after reports said he had fallen out with Helmi during the last Cairo derby late in December when leaders Ahly claimed a 2-0 league win to move 11 points clear of Zamalek, who have two matches in hand. The reports claimed Shikabala had refused to play after Nigerian forward Stanley Ohawuchi picked up an injury during the warm-up due to his frustration at not being originally selected in the starting line-up. Goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawi was included in Zamalek's squad although there are still doubts over his availability after he suffered an injury in Egypt's opening 0-0 draw with Mali in the African Cup of Nations, which sent him home. Zamalek's new recruit Hossam Salama "Paolo, Egyptian league top scorer in 2015 and 2016, was also named in the roster. The Super Cup, which was supposed to be the season's curtain raiser but was postponed to February, will take place in the United Arab Emirates for the second time. In October 2015, Ahly defeated Zamalek 3-2 to win a record-extending ninth Super Cup title. Zamalek won the trophy only twice.
