A Cairo criminal court upheld on Wednesday a decision to freeze the assets of Egyptian feminist and human rights activists Mozn Hassan in the case known in the media as the NGOs foreign funding case. Mozn Hassan is accused of receiving illegal foreign funding in the on-going case, in which other prominent human rights activists in Egypt are also charged. During her appeal hearing, Hassan said the NGO she founded, Nazra for Feminist Studies, ceased operations for nearly a year. She also presented the NGO's tax payment records to the court. Hassan was banned from travelling outside Egypt in the spring of 2016 due to the charges brought against her. The court also upheld a decision to freeze the assets of human rights activist Mohamed Zaree in the same case on Wednesday. Zaree, the founder of the Arab Organisation for Criminal Reform was also banned from travel in 2016.
