Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny described Olivier Giroud's "scorpion goal" against Crystal Palace in Sunday's English Premier League game as one of the best goals he had ever seen. The Frenchman opened the scoring after 18 minutes when he met an Alexis Sanchez cross with a back-heeled flick that sent the ball up against the underside of the bar and into the net. "It was brilliant," Egypt's central midfielder Elneny, who played the full 90 minutes against Crystal Palace, told beIN Sports after the match when asked about Giroud's goal. "It was one of the one of the best goals I have seen in my life." Elneny put in a fine display as Arsenal claimed a 2-0 win to rise to third in the Premier League. He came close to scoring with two shots, with one going wide from the edge of the area and the other blocked by the defence from inside the 18-yard box. "We did what we needed to do, which is to win. Thanks God for the performance and the three points," he added. Elneny will link up with the Egyptian national team on Monday as the Pharaohs prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on 14 January in Gabon. Record seven-time winners Egypt, who have not reached the Nations Cup since 2010, will play in Group D that also includes Ghana, Mali and Uganda. "We are aware that Egyptians need something to make them happy, and we are determined to make them happy at the Nations Cup," Elneny said.
