The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirmed on Monday that there will be no delay in the Egyptian Premier League's Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek in the last match-day of the first round. “Chairman Hani Abou Reida confirms the game will be held as scheduled on 29 December,” the association's Competitions Committee head Amer Hussein was quoted as saying by Egyptian newspapers Monday. Speculation arose over the date of the game after the Egyptian national team manager Hector Cuper was reported to have requested a postponement amid the Pharaohs' preparations for the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon. “The EFA boss believes that holding the game as scheduled is better for the competition and for the national team,” Hussein added. There were also debates and a war of words between the two rivals over the delay. The record holders of 38 trophies, Ahly are on top of the table with 42 points from 16 games, 14 before Zamalek who played four games less.
