Cameroon named Frenchman Denis Lavagne as their new coach on Wednesday, 24 hours after sacking Javier Clemente who failed to take the Indomitable Lions to next year's African Cup of Nations. "The Minister of Sports has decided to appoint Frenchman Denis Lavagne as the national coach of the Cameroon team," reported Cameroon's Radio-Television. The 47-year-old coach takes over at the four-time African champions after leaving Cameroonian side Cotonsport Garoua, who have dominated the domestic league in recent years. Lavagne's first target will be steering Cameroon to a place at the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa. "The objective is clear: qualify the Lions for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations," Lavagne told CRTV. "My mission is also to prepare the team for the future. I'll get to work immediately'' he added.
