Toothless Ahly held by Enppi in Egyptian league
Published in Ahram Online on 12 - 12 - 2016

A toothless Ahly side missed out the chance of extending their lead on the top of the league table after failing to break down Enppi in a goalless draw in Monday's Egyptian league game at Petro Sport stadium.
Ahly are leading the league table with 39 points, eight points ahead of second placed Maqassa who have two matches on their hand.
Missing a reliable striker, the defending champions gained possession throughout most of the 90 minutes but they were easily contained by the defencive-minded Enppi, who were happy to share honours at the final whistle.
The petroleum side made a good start in the game, coming close to earning an early lead, squandering two golden scoring-chances in the first 15 minutes.
Ahly's fullback Hussein El-Sayed slipped in the third minute and Enppi forward Mahmoud Qaoud found himself unmarked but his close-range effort went over the bar. Few minutes later, striker Amr Marei met a pinpoint cross from Amr Tarek but his close-range header was easily collected by Ahly's keeper Sherif Ekrami
Ahly's first scoring chance came in the 67 minute when substitute Walid Soliman received a nice pass from Ahmed Fathi that made him clear, but he failed to control the ball giving the chance to Enppi defender to clear the ball.
Three minutes later, Soliman sent a nice cross from a free kick, but Fathi's header went over the bar.
Ahly's coach Hossam El-Badri tried to intensify his offence, introducing midfielder Hossam Ghaly and veteran striker Emad Meteab at the expense of defender Mohamed Hani and winger Moemen Zakareya, respectively, but the duo failed to make their presence felt.
Ahly faces a tough test on Sunday when they play resilient Masry a few days before the Cairo derby against Zamalek on the 29th of this month.
