Ahly masterclass sinks below-par Gaish The defending champions move to second place after storming past Talae El-Gaish with a 3-0 league victory on Thursday
Ahly have produced their finest display in years when they thrashed Talae El-Gaish 3-0 on Thursday in the 12thmatchday of the Egyptian Premier League. Right-back Ahmed Fathy needed 10 minutes to put Ahly ahead before Mohamed Nagy “Gedo” doubled the lead seven minutes later for his second goal of the season. Veteran playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika converted a penalty eight minutes after the restart to wrap up the win as the Red Devils made their complete domination of possession count after producing the kind of free-flowing football which they long missed. The defending champions moved second in the league table with 26 points, two behind surprise leaders Haras El-Hodoud who played a game more. The heavy defeat piles more pressure on El-Gaish coach Farouk Gaafar, who hasn't savored the taste of victory since their 2-1 win over Arab Contractors in the opening day of the season. The action started as early as the sixth minute when Gedo's close range header crashed off the post and his second attempt was denied by keeper Emad El-Sayed. Four minutes later, Ahmed Fathi broke the deadlock when he fired a 40-yard shot that was deflected by defender Sameh Hassan into the net. Ahly continued their domination after going ahead, courtesy of a quick passing game with Abdallah El-Saied, Walid Soliman, Ahmed Fathy and Ahmed Shedid combining to produce one of team's finest displays this season. In the 17thminute Fathi, delivered a swerving cross inside the box for Gedo, who skipped a defender to send a powerful header past the keeper and double his team's lead. El-Saied combined with Mohamed Abou-Treika in a fine one-two to go clear in the area but his shot went over the bar shortly after. Farouk Gaafar brought in Ghanaian striker Ernest Papa Arko for Michael Mariano, in the 21stminute, to boost his front line as his men were forced to retreat and had to chase shadows as they tried to win the ball back off their illustrious opponents. They had their first sight of goal in the 35thminute when playmaker Ayman Hefny sent Salah Amin clear in the area but he blasted the ball wide after dribbling past defender Wael Gomaa. Ahly's lively winger Walid Soliman came close to scoring just before the interval but he failed to meet Gedo's low cross from inside the six yards. The visitors improved after the break with a better organization in midfield and solid backline to counter Ahly's domination of possession. Strike duo Amin and Arko penetrated Ahly's defence but failed to exploit that rare chance and sweeper Hossam Ghaly cleared the danger. Experienced playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika killed off any hopes of a comeback in the 53rdminute when he scored the third from a penalty kick after Gedo was brought down in the area. The game then was a one-way traffic towards El-Gaish's box with the likes El-Saied, Soliman, Gedo, Anou-Treika and substitutes Fabio Junior and Mohamed Barakat creating a host of chances that could have helped Ahly register a more emphatic win. Keeper Emad El-Sayed - the best man in the opposite side - produced two magnificent saves to deny some powerful shots from Soliman and Gedo and keep the score locked at 3-0.
