Ahly isn't interested in re-signing their former Gabonese striker Malick Evouna, the club's president Mahmoud Taher insisted on Tuesday. Evouna, who delivered outstanding performances with Ahly last season, has been linked recently with a return to the Cairo giants amid the current crisis in front line. Ahly, currently second in the league table with 23 points from nine matches, scored 14 goals since the start of the season, with strikers John Antwi of Ghana and Junior Ajayi of Nigeria netting only three of them. "Evouna won't return to Ahly. We don't think of that at all," Taher was quoted as saying by Ahly's official website. "Also, what was reported about Ajayi's departure to Europe is not true. He isn't for sale," he added. The 23-year-old Evouna left Ahly last summer to join China's Tianjin Teda in a three-and-a-half-year deal with a record fee of $8 million. The international striker made a slow start at Ahly but proved his worth with some convincing displays, scoring 12 goals in 24 appearances in the domestic league, helping the Red Devils regain the league title from rivals Zamalek. Evouna joined Ahly from Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in 2015 in a record transfer deal that totalled $2.5 million, the most expensive in Egypt's football history.
