World number 26, Tarek Momen from Egypt created the biggest surprise of the 2011 Qatar classic after beating top seed Nick Matthew 3-0 on Tuesday. The Englishman started brilliantly his game with a comfortable 6/1 then 8/4 lead but he strangely lost his pace, confidence and vision against a well determined Egyptian rising star who snatched the first game 11/9 and battled through the second 12/10 before finishing in style 11/8 in 44 minutes. “I have to say that I am speechless, I've been so inconsistent for the past three years, I had my upsets, but today is by far my best result,” Momen said after the game. “Today everything was going my way and I thought you've got to take the opportunity, it may never happen again,” the 23-year old player said. Elsewhere Karim Darwish, world number three and now the biggest favorite to win the title, stormed past Henrik Mustonen from Finland in straight games 11/4, 11/5 and 11/5.
