Visual art exhibition and competition Roznama 5 will open on 4 September in Cairo's Medrar, Mashrabiya, and Soma galleries. Organised by Medrar and curated by founder Mohamed Allam and artist Ghita Skali, the exhibition comprises works selected from an open call for artists. The competition aims to offer a space for young Egyptian artists to experiment and "encourage creative contemporary art works, which are different from the classical forms taught at art academies," reads the event description on Facebook. This year's exhibition will comprise the works of 37 artists, ranging across different art mediums. Artists Khaled Hafez, Osama Dawod and Mohamed Abdelkarim will jury the works and will announce eight winners. The awards range from a solo exhibit at Medrar gallery to an artist residency in Paris. Monetary prizes are also offered by Gypsum Gallery, Mashrabia Gallery, Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment, Alwan stationary, as well as from five established Egyptian artists, Mohamed Abla, Shady El Noshokaty, Hany Rashed, Hala Elkoussy and Huda Lotfy.
