EU Delegation launches photo challenge for amateurs The Delegation of the European Union to Egypt has launched a new challenge for amateur photographers in Egypt – its fourth annual competition for the best thirty photographs
This year's theme for the EU photo challenge, the fourth, is "New Egypt". The first-prize winner, to be selected by a jury of established experts in the field, will be awarded Euro 1,000; the second-prize winner will be awarded a Digital SLR camera. A new special award has been established in the name of the photojournalist Mohammed Hassan, one of the winners of the first photo competition who died recently at an early age. The first 12 winners will make up the a 2012 calendar to be published by the Delegation of the European Union. All 30 photos will be on display in a Cairo art gallery (to be named), and will be included in the competition catalogue. Contestants are invited to express their vision of Egypt in these crucial times. The current period offers a rich source of inspiration for photographers: the dreams, events, contradictions, frustrations in the search for a better future. All amateur photographers living in Egypt are invited to participate. This year's jury is made up of prominent photographers, media personalities and artists including the photographers Randa Shaath and Khaled Dessouky, and the TV presenter Reem Maged. The jury will be searching for personal and original visions of photographers from all over Egypt. The deadline for the competition is 14 November, 2011. The full details of how to participate can be found on the website of the delegation: http://eeas.europa.eu/delegations/egypt/index_en.htm http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/23537.aspx
