Published in Ahram Online on 06 - 10 - 2011

Sixteen political parties, coalition and movements have called for a mass protests in Tahrir Square tomorrow, for what has been dubbed ‘return-to-barracks' Friday.‎
Demonstrators will be primarily calling for the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to hand over power to a civilian authority, and provide a clear timetable to step down sooner than has been previously suggested.‎
Among the political forces taking part in the protest are the Revolution Youth Coalition, the April 6 (Democratic Front) and the Egypt Freedom Party.
A joint statement issued by the organisers said the protest will be peaceful and start after Friday prayers.
“The purpose of the protest is to call for the fulfillment of the revolution and to oppose those who want the return of Mubarak's repressive autocratic regime,” the statement reads.
SCAF has assumed power since former president Hosni Mubarak was deposed in the wake of a popular uprising.‎
The demands of Friday's protest:‎
1-‎ A timetable for SCAF to hand over power.‎
2-‎ An official statement from SCAF that the emergency law was revoked on 30 September.
3-‎ Implementation of the recently-ratified treason law to prevent former regime figures from taking part in politics.‎
4-‎ Introduction of amendments to the judicial authority law, which provides for an independent judiciary.‎
5-‎ A ban on military trials for civilians.
6-‎ Amendment of the electoral law for the coming parliamentary elections to make sure no former regime figures re-enter parliament.
7-‎ Immediate fulfilment of the revolution's other demands, such as achieving social justice and a minimum wage.
