Ahly have unveiled their new kit on Tuesday after wrapping up a three-year sponsorship deal, the biggest in Egyptian football history, with telecommunication company Etisalat.
Etisalat Egypt, a subsidiary of Etisalat UAE, paid LE 135 million to beat off stiff competition from rivals Vodafone and become the new kit sponsor of Egypt and Africa's most successful club.
“The company has a realized a dream it had since joining the Egyptian market,” Etisalat chairman Gamal El-Sadat, son of late Egyptian president Anwar El-Sadat, said during a press conference.
“We are honored to sponsor the shirt of such a big club, and have our name associated with Ahly's.”
Ahly chairman Hassan Hamdy also expressed his delight, lauding Etisalat “for boosting the Egyptian economy”.
Vodafone has been the Red Devils' partner since 2002 but fell short of matching Etisalat's mega bid.
Unlike most Egyptian clubs, Ahly are consistently praised for generating regular income and revenue, avoiding the kind of financial problems which blight many teams, including arch-rivals Zamalek.
