TheEgyptian Cabinethas approved amendments to the Shura Council (Upper House) law including lowering the number of seats from 390 to 270. The amendments which were discussed during a cabinet meeting today, include dividng Egypt into 30 constituencies using the electoral list voting system and another 30 with the single candidate list voting system. Voters will pick two candidates from each constituency, one of whom has to be either a worker or farmer. Additionally, according to the new law, two thirds of the new council will be elected using closed electoral lists, while the remaining third of the members will be chosen through single candidate lists.
