Belgian coach Hugo Broos is pleased with the progress Cameroon have made under his guidance since he took charge of the team, hoping his players would quickly gel into his strategy as the World Cup qualifying draw approaches. The 64-year-old, who was named Cameroon's boss in February, is tasked with rebuilding the ailing African powerhouses. They qualified for next year's African Cup of Nations after finishing on top of a group that also includes South Africa, Gambia and Mauritania. Cameroon were also impressive in a recent friendly which they lost 3-2 to Euro 2016 hosts France. "Since taking up the job, I've tried to get to know the pool of players and pick the best ones to represent their country," Broos said in an interview with FIFA.com. "People are sometimes surprised by my choices, but I've given them a lot of thought. To get the right results, you have to first build a squad and pick players who can work well together on and off the pitch. "Our international players must understand that the overall objective is a win for the team and not their own individual performances. We now have a consistent and balanced group of players; that became clear to me during our last international get-together in Nantes and during the friendly match we played against France." Cameroon will learn their fate in the World Cup qualifiers when the draw takes place on 24 June in Cairo. "Qualification for the World Cup will depend on how fast the players buy into the rebuilding project. We'll need to build a solid side, one that can compete with any opponents," Broos added. "If the players apply the advice that we give them at training, it will all go well. Now, we'll see who we get in the draw on 24 June and what kind of chances we have on paper. Getting Cameroon to Russia 2018 is my prime objective."
