Turkey's prime minister says his country is considering sanctions against Syria for its brutal crackdown of the six-month-old uprising. Recep Tayyip Erdogan also told Turkish journalists in New York late Tuesday, that he is no longer in contact with Syria's leadership. His comments were carried by the state-run Anatolia news agency. Erdogan said the Turkish Foreign Ministry would work with the US State Department to determine possible Turkish sanctions against Syria. Erdogan said: "I have cut all contacts with the Syrian administration." Turkey is Syria's neighbor and an important trade partner, but Turkish leaders have grown increasingly frustrated with Damascus over its refusal to halt the crackdown on opposition protesters.
