Egypt's presidential candidates to present crisis-management plan to military rulers
Published in Ahram Online on 14 - 09 - 2011

Seven of the major presidential candidates for Egypt, upset with the de facto ruling military's harsh hand, have met and a source tells Ahram Online that they will present a crisis management plan
Without further details, seven of the major presidential candidates in Egypt announced that they met yesterday, Tuesday upon the invitation of a number of the revolutionary youth. The meeting aimed at discussing "the current critical circumstances that Egypt is experiencing" according to a press release published by Mohamed ElBardei's media office.
"During the meeting the presidential candidates discussed the means by which the current challenges that the Egyptian society faces can be met," the press release added.
Those who attended the meeting include: Mohamed ElBaradei, former director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency; Amr Moussa, former secretary general of the Arab League; Nationalist former MP Hamdeen Sabahi; Islamic candidates Hazem Abu Ismail and Mohamed Selim El-Awa; ex-Muslim Brotherhood leader, Abdel Moniem Aboul Fotouh and prominent reformist Judge Hisham El-Bastawisi, who is currently abroad, but teleconferenced the meeting.
A source close to the meeting told Ahram Online that another session was held today and that the seven political figures will announce what can be described as a "crisis-management plan." They will submit this to the ruling military council by this Friday, which will state clear demands for the transitional period.
Earlier this week presidential hopeful, Amr Moussa, suggested the establishment of a group of a hundred trustworthy public figures to serve as a temporary parliament charged with ensuring that any steps taken in the interim period will be taken in a democratic manner.
All seven figures harshly criticised Egypt's ruling junta for reviving emergency laws and expanding its functions.
