Dubai Cultural Award goes to two Egyptians among the top literary winners Sherif Saleh won the top award for short stories and Nahla Mamdouh in the novel category
The Dubai Cultural Award winners were announced across their seven categories: short stories, novels,poetry, visual arts, documentaries, theatre and dialogue with the West.Two Egyptians andone Syrian were the top literary winners. Egyptian writer, Sherif Saleh, won the award for short stories for his collection Egg on the Beach. His collection deals with the crisis of existence, including identity conflict, the estrangement within different environments and the relationship with authority. This collection is Saleh's fourth published work since his first collection in 2007. In the field of poetry, Mohamed Ali Afif Al-Ghadour from Syria won the award for Keys to the Soul's Prison. Nahla Mamdouh from Egypt won in the novel category for her book Hallucinations. The judging committee was composed of experts from the various fields of culture throughout the Arab world, including poet Abdel-Moaty Hegazy and Abdel-Fattah Sabry from Egypt, Youssef Abu-Luz from Palestine, in addition to two Iraqis, two Syrians, one Yemeni and one from the Emirates.
