Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Khan lauds Iran's Film Museum

The veteran filmmaker Mohamed Khan expresses his awe at the Iranian film museum in a column in Al-Tahrir newspaper, hinting that Egypt should have one on par

The filmmaker Mohamed Khan expressed his shame that Egypt does not have a film museum like the one that impressed him so in Tehran in his recent visit.
In the article published in Al Tahrir newspaper Khan writes, astonished: “With the effort of the cinema makers themselves, especially the filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, they housed the museum in an old, renovated castle” adding that it opened in 1994.
As for the contents of the museum Khan wrote that the Iranian Film Musem includes everything from Iran's early turn-of-the-century silent films to its world-renowned works that have been lauded in festivals. It also includes prizes garnered by filmmakers, including those of Jafar Panahi, who received a six-year prison sentence last year, as well as a 20-year ban on making films.
The museum also includes portraits of famous figures as well as of those working behind the scenes, from scriptwriters, to editors, cinematographers, sound engineers, producers and child actors. As for the archives, it contains 8,000 books about cinema, 4,000 scripts and 1,700 films.
