Wydad come from two goals down to hold Esperance in CL Wydad Casablanca come from two goals down to hold Esperance to a 2-2 draw in an exciting CAF Champions League clash
Morocco's Wydad Casablanca recovered from a two-goal deficit to share honors with Tunisia's Esperance in an exciting CAF Champions League clash on Sunday. The hosts took the lead midway through the first half when playmaker Oussama Darragi found Wajdi Bouazzi with a superb defense-splitting pass to fire low into the bottom corner from inside the area. A bizarre goal gave Esperance a two-goal cushion in the 36th minute when an innocuous header by defender Walid Hichri from 15 yards eluded several defenders and went past the motionless keeper. Wydad's DR Congo striker Fabrice Nguessi pulled one back five minutes past the hour mark when he fired home on the rebound after Esperance keeper parried a powerful drive into his path. Youssef Kaddioui converted a penalty in the 75th minute to secure a share of spoils and stun Esperance's enthusiastic fans. The result will come as a boost to Egyptian champions Ahly, who revived their hopes of reaching the Champions League semis after claiming a comfortable 2-0 victory over Algeria's Mouloudia Alger on Friday. Wydad are on top of Group B with five points, ahead of second-placed Esperance on goal difference. Ahly have four points while Mouloudia remain at the bottom with a solitary point.
