Ahly's interim coach Abdel-Aziz Abdel-Shafi said on Tuesday that his players' determination was decisive in the Cairo derby win against Zamalek, thanking the Red Devils for their efforts during the game. The Cairo giants cemented their place at the Egyptian League summit following their 2-0 win over archrivals Zamalek on Tuesday. Ahly are on top with 38 points, seven points ahead of the second-placed Zamalek. "The clash was very tough but we won the game," Abdel-Shafi told reporters after the game. "I don't know if I'll remain as a coach or not, what is important is that Ahly won," he concluded. Abdel-Shafi took over last January after the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro and won four straight games against Ismaily 1-0, Ittihad of Alexandria 1-0, Enppi 2-0 and Zamalek 2-0.
