Algeria's Bougherra on the verge of Qatar move The Rangers' Algerian defender, Madjid Bougherra, is on the verge of a high-ticket move to Qatari side Lekhwiya
Qatari club Lekhwiya revealed on Monday that they are close to signing Algerian defender Madjid Bougherra after reaching an agreement with the Rangers. ‘'We have reached agreement with the Rangers but still have a couple of minor details to sort out with Madjid. God willing, this transfer will go though in the next few days,'' Lekhwiya's sporting director Billel Walid Al Hatmi told the Daily Record. The Qatari club tabled a £3 million-offer ($4,880mn) for the Scottish club to acquire the services of the versatile defender. ‘'The deal is not quite official, but it will be soon. Any small details that still have to be sorted are not big enough to prevent the transfer from happening. I expect the transfer to be concluded before the end of the week," Al Hatmi added. The 28-year-old defender, who has one year remaining in his contract with the Rangers, announced last March that he intended to quit the Scottish club at the end of the season after turning down a new contract. Bougherra will be the fourth Algerian international player to enter the Qatari League after Nadir Belhadj (El-Sadd) and Mourad Meghni (Umm Salal) and Karim Zaiani (El-Jeish).
