The Ramadan Book Fair will start this coming Friday 5 August and will continue until 25 August, confirmed Ahmed Megahed, head of the General Book Organisation.
Megahed also confirmed that the Ramadan Book Fair does not replace the Cairo International Book Fair, traditionally held annually in January, but which had to be cancelled this year due to the revolution
The 20-day book fair will be held at the organisation's grounds on Faysal Street near the pyramids, stated Megahed from the organisation's venue overlooking the Nile.
Books from 85 different publishers, including 11 Arab publishers from Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Algeria will be sold. The facilities are divided into air-conditioned sections suitable for the mid-August Cairo heat.
The fair will open daily from 11am - 4pm, then again after iftar (the meal that breaks the day's fasting) from 9pm - 1am.
The book organisation will discount 20 – 50 per cent off their own books and some from other publishers.
In parallel to the book display, there's also a plan for activities that includes general discussions, political debatesand music performances.
Programme:
5 - 25 August
