Audiences at the 7th Panorama of the European Film have selected Tangerines (Estonia/Georgia) and The Hunt (Denmark) as the winners of this year's Audience Award.
The two winning films will be re-screened tonight at 9:30pm.
After each film screening, audiences are given a slip of paper on which they rank the film from 1 to 5, 5 being the best and 1 being the worst. This year, Tangerines and The Hunt garnered the most votes.
Tangerines is set in the 1990s in an Estonian village called Abkhazia. As the war approaches, two villagers – Ivo and Markus – are the only ones who haven't left. Markus wants to harvest his tangerine plantation, although Ivo is against cropping during wartime. After rescuing survivors, they must resolve their own war, happening under their roof with enemies from both sides.
The film is Estonia's official submission forthe Best Foreign Language Film Award at the upcoming Oscars.
Meanwhile, The Hunt, directed byThomas Vinterberg, was Denmark's Oscar entry last year.
Following a tough divorce, 40-year-old Lucas has a new girlfriend, a new job and is in the process of reestablishing his relationship with his teenage son, Marcus. But things go awry. And as the snow falls and the Christmas lights are lit, a random lie spreads like a virus. The shock and mistrust gets out of hand, and the small community finds itself in a collective state of hysteria.
The screenings will take placeat Zawya and Galaxy cinemas.
