GCC States reject the ‘provocative' Iranian statement towards Bahrain An aggressive Friday sermon delivered by the chairman of the Iranian Guardian Council, Ahmad Jannati, renews tensions in Gulf-Iran relations
The Gulf Cooperation Council ( GCC) memberstates expressed their total rejection for the ‘false' and ‘provocative' claims made by Jannati last Friday. According to MENA, GCC states regarded Jannati's words as an unwelcomed interference in the Bahraini domestic affairs, a political discourse that disregards Bahrain's sovereignty and independence. Seeking to portray the Gulf protest in an official image, Secretary-General of the GCC Abdul Latif Al Zayani handed a protest noteto Sayed Mohammad Jawad Rasouli, the Iranian ambassador in Bahrain during their meeting todayin Riyadh. The protest note stipulated the inconsistency of Jannati's statement with the the principles of good neighborliness, the United Nations Charter and international legitimacy, placing the Gulf-Iranian diplomatic relations on the verge of collapse. The GCC states called the Iranian officials to put an end for their inflammatory statements towards the Kingdom of Bahrain and its people,as to preserve the regional interests thatconnect the Gulfwiththe Islamic republic. The protest note finalised its message by praising on the enormous efforts of His Majesty Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, in promoting national unity, protecting civil peace, and enhancing the Bahrainian path of political reformthat fulfillsthe hopes and aspirations of his people.
