Basata band will perform at El Geneina Theatre. Basata, literally meaning simplicity, was formed when the band members decided theflood oflove songs produced in Egypt needed some mixing up. Theygathered a groupof young emerging poets to write lyrics – including Hesham el Gagh, the popular colloquial poet from Upper Egypt – assembled an oud, qanoon, guitar, cello and violin, and started to make music that, as they saw it, defied the status quo. The result: International success and performances across both Egypt and Europe. Thursday, 21 July at 8pm, El Genaina Theatre, Al Azhar Park, Salah Salem Rd.
