Heavy rain continued for the third day in a row on Thursday in Egypt's northern Beheira governorate, where 11 people were killed the previous day in accidents caused by heavy rain. Flooding forced over a hundred residents of the Nile Delta province, 80 kilometers (112 miles) north of Cairo, to leave their homes on Wednesday; eleven people were killed, some of them from electrocution. On Thursday, puddles and mud covered streets across the city as rain caused power outages in several areas and villages. Thursday morning rains halted trains traveling between five southern stations along Cairo's vital subway system due to an electricity malfunction. Train movement was resumed shortly after, at around 8am, Metro authority spokesman Ahmed Abdel Hady told Ahram Online. Meteorologists expect the rainfall to continue into Friday across several parts of the country including the Northern Alexandria governorate and the Sinai region, to the east. On Wednesday, a woman was killed after falling into an open storm drain in front of her home in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, where heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the past two weeks, killing at least six and forcing the provincial governor to resign over accusations of negligence.
