Jordan's Prince Ali meets CAF officials in Egypt to gather support for FIFA bid
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 10 - 2015

Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan met with some CAF officials, including the head of the African governing body Issa Hayatou, during a two-day visit to Egypt to gather support for his bid to become FIFA's president in next year's elections.
Hayatou, who is also FIFA's caretaker boss following the suspension of incumbent president Sepp Blatter, and Egyptian Hani Abou-Reida, a FIFA executive committee member, received Prince Ali in Cairo where African football executives met for two days.
"I have no worries over competing with fellow Arab candidates. I'm confident that the Egyptian Football Association and other Arab federations who supported me before in the elections will support me again," Prince Ali was quoted as saying by Egyptian state-run news agency MENA.
Egypt said it had voted for Prince Ali during the May elections, which saw Blatter elected for a fifth term in office but he then announced on 2 June that he would lay down his mandate at the "extraordinary elective congress" which will take place in February next year.
The 79-year-old Swiss and UEFA chief Michel Platini were suspended for 90 days early in October by FIFA's ethics committee after being engulfed by a corruption scandal.
Prince Ali will compete with a fellow Arab in the FIFA elections: Asian soccer confederation president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
The other candidates are South African businessman Tokyo Sexwale, UEFA chief Platini, Platini's right-hand man Gianni Infantino, former FIFA official Jerome Champagne, Liberian football official Musa Bility and David Nakhid, a former player from Trinidad and Tobago.
Sexwale also visited Cairo on Tuesday to campaign for support from African football leaders.
