Ahly assistant hails ‘fighting spirit' after last-gasp draw Ahly' assistant coach lauds the fighting spirit of his players following a last-gasp draw with Smouha on Sunday
Ahly assistant coach Pedro heaped praise on his players after they overturned a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 at home to Smouha and take a giant stride towards the Egyptian Premier League title. The Red Devils were trailing by two goals with ten minutes remaining but substitute Osama Hosny pulled one back with a fine half-volley before defender Ahmed El-Sayed struck in stoppage time to secure a share of spoils. The draw helped Ahly maintain a five-point advantage over second-placed and arch-rivals Zamalek, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Ittihad of Alexandria, with two matches to go. “We were not lucky enough to win today,” Pedro, who usually speaks to media instead of head coach and fellow Portuguese Manuel Jose, said on the club's official website after the match. “Although Smouha went two up, our experienced players kept fighting till the last minute. They never gave up.” Ahly will officially wrap up a seventh consecutive league title if they beat relegated Arab Contractors in their next game on Thursday. “I'm sure we will settle the title in the coming game,” added Petro, who said that Ahly were highly unlikely to lose the title following last week's 2-2 Cairo derby draw with Zamalek.
