Council of ministers decides to dissolve local councils
The government of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has reached a consensus on dissolving local councils, dominated by Mubarak's erstwhile ruling NDP

In a meeting held on Sunday the council of ministers has taken a decision to abide by the administrative court decision to dissolve all local councils.
Dissolving local councils has been one of the main demands of the 25 January revolution. Local councils are regarded as a tool used by the former regime and were widely criticized for their role in corruption even after the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.
There are about 1750 local councils in Egypt. More than 10 lawsuits have been filed to the administrative court to dissolve them since Mubarak's ouster. About 98 per cent of the country's local councils were controlled by former National Democratic Party members.
