A third qualifying round is played before teams from Europe's five top-ranked nations enter the playoff round in August. Defending champion Barcelona is among 22 clubs with direct entry to the 32-team group stage. The groups are drawn 25 August in Monaco and kick off in September. The 2012 final will be played 19 May in Munich.
