Ittihad hit with fine and fan ban after pitch invasion Ittihad of Alexandria were fined EGP20,000, and their upcoming game will be relocated to closed-door venue, after fans invaded the pitch on Wednesday
The Egyptian Football Association has imposed a EGP20,000 fine on Ittihad of Alexandria, with their next game to be played out of the city behind closed door, after their fans invaded the pitch, attacking the referee and both teams' players, during their game against Wadi Degla on Wednesday. “Ittihad's next game will be out of Alexandria and played behind closed doors. This rule will be applied to all similar cases in all clubs and in case of repeat of action the team will play its remaining games in a neutral venue behind closed doors,” a statement read on the EFA website. The emergency committee met on Thursday to discuss the case amid concerns that the violence may result in the cancellation of the domestic competition. Ittihad of Alexandria were in a must-win situation to get out of the relegation zone. Wadi Degla slotted their second goal in injury time 90+2 to spark fury among the Alexandrian supporters who stormed the pitch, clashing with security personnel and chasing Ittihad and Wadi Degla players who managed to escape unscathed. The EFA allowed a 2-0 win for the visitors, leaving Ittihad with little hope of dodging relegation.
