Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny scored a stunner to help Basel come from behind and earn a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in their opening Group I clash of the Europa League on Thursday. Fiorentina took an early lead, thanks to a goal from Birkir Bjarnason after four minutes but a late recovery by Basel saw them secure all three points at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence. Birkir Bjarnason equalized with a low drive from the edge of the area on 71 minutes before a moment of inspiration from Egypt midfielder Elneny silence the home crowd with 11 minutes remaining. The 23-year-old, who came through the youth ranks of Egypt's Arab Contractors before joining Basel in 2013, fired an unstoppable long-range shot that nestled into the roof of the net from outside the area. It was his third goal of the season for Basel after he scored in the 4-0 Swiss Cup win over Meyrin as well as the 3-1 league victory over Lugano last month.
