Mexican survivors of Egypt attack head back home The survivors were transported to the airport in ambulances escorted by police vehicles and a team of physicians
Six Mexican tourists injured when Egyptian forces mistakenly attacked their convoy in the Western Desert headed back home late on Thursday, state news agency MENA said. The survivors left Cairo International Airport on a plane along with Mexican Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu, who arrived in Egypt on Wednesday to demand thorough investigations into the attack. Eight Mexican tourists and four Egyptians were killed on Sunday in an airstrike in the country's Western Desert as security forces were chasing militants. Officials said the convoy had entered a "restricted area". The survivors were transported to the airport in ambulances escorted by police vehicles and a team of physicians, MENA added. Massieu met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday. She told a news conference that her country will wait for the results of investigations by the Cairo government, saying the findings of a "thorough, swift and transparent" probe will be made public. A statement from El-Sisi's office said a committee chaired by the Egyptian prime minister would lead the investigation and report its findings. Egypt's public prosecutor's office ordered a gag on all news related to the investigation until it is complete. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/141799.aspx
