Ahly midfielder Saleh Gomaa will not be available for Egypt's African Cup of Nations qualifier away to Chad on 6 September over fears he might aggravate a knee injury that he has sustained lately. The Egyptian FA said on its official website that Argentinean coach Hector Cuper had decided to exclude Gomaa because he was not fully fit after picking up a knee injury in Ahly's 1-0 defeat at Tunisia's Etoile Sahel in the African Confederation Cup group stage earlier this month. The 22-year-old, who was on loan at Portugal's Nacional last season, made a summer move from ENPPI to Egypt and Africa's most successful club Ahly. He has made 10 international appearances with Egypt's senior team. Zamalek's in-form defensive midfielder Tarek Hamed has been called up as a replacement, the EFA said. Egypt top Group G of the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers with three points after opening their campaign with an easy 3-0 home win over Tanzania. Nigeria also have three points after beating Chad 2-0. Record winners Egypt have not reached the Nations Cup since winning the last of their seven titles in 2010 in Angola.
