Art Alert: Omar Sharif's Esha'et Hob screens at ROOM Beloved cinematic icon Omar Sharif remembered at ROOM with film screening of Esha'et Hob, Sunday 12 July
Remembering the late Omar Sharif, ROOM Art Space is holding a screening of Esha3et Hob (A Rumor of Love) on Sunday, days after the iconic star's death. Esha'et Hob is one of Egyptian cinema's romantic-comedy gems, starring Sharif alongside Soad Hosny, Youssef Wahbi and Hend Rostom. The 1961 classic, directed by Fatin Abdelwahab, follows the story of decent and awkward Hussein, played by Sharif, who is hopelessly in love with his lively cousin Samiha (Soad Hosny). To win her elusive love, Hussein is mentored by her father, who devises a clever plan to re-invent Hussein's image and win Samiha's affections. Comedy ensues as the plan complicates, with a rumour spreading across town threatening Hussein's reputation, bringing to the screen some of the most memorable characters and dialogue in Egyptian cinema. ROOM's screening was already planned before the death of Sharif, as part of their programme Egyptian Classics in Ramadan taking place every Sunday since 21 June. Esha'et Hob is the last of ROOM's film programme, after screening Tharthara Fawq Al-Nile (Chitchat on the Nile), (Om el Arousa) Mother of the Bride and Losoos Laken Zorfa'a (Thieves but Funny), falling very timely with remembering Sharif after his recent death. Programme: Sunday 12 July, 9:30 ROOM Art Space, 10 Etehad EL-Mohamin street, Garden City, Cairo The film will have English subtitles http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/135175.aspx
