No E. coli bacteria in Egypt: Ministry of Health Minister of health assures Egyptians that precautions are being taken to prevent the contagious bacteria from entering the country
Egypt does not have any patients infected with the E. coli bacteria, according to Minister of Health Ashraf Hatem. Hatem says that strict precautions are in place across Egypt to screen anyone coming from the ten European countries with widespread cases of E.coli to ensure that they are free from the bacteria. Hatem added that Egypt does not import cucumbers from the affected countries. He pointed out that while E. coli is contagious, it can be avoided by washing vegetables with water. However, he stressed that there is no fear of infection in Egypt. The minister added that a monitoring committee has been set up which will meet next Sunday to assess the situation in Egypt and prevent bacterial infections in the country.
