Ghana players are reportedly frustrated after they were not paid bonuses for their 7-1 hammering of Mauritius in an African Cup of Nations qualifier last month. The Black Stars opened their qualifying campaign for the 2017 Gabon finals with a comprehensive victory in Group H on 14 June in Accra but Ghanasoccernet reported on Friday that the entire squad has not been paid any bonuses since then. According to the website, "this is the first time in ten years that players have not been paid their match winning bonuses". Ghana encountered a serious problem at last year's World Cup finals in Brazil when the players threatened to go on strike over the non-payment of bonuses agreed for the tournament before the intervention of president John Dramani Mahama settled the dispute. Ghanasoccernet said each player is owed a $10,000 bonus, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports declining to approve the sum. Ghana, who lost to Ivory Coast on penalties in the Nations Cup final earlier this year, face Rwanda away from home in their next qualifier in September.
