Queen Elizabeth II honours two Egyptians for outstanding service to British society
The honours system recognises people who have made achievements in public life and committed themselves to serving and helping Britain

Queen Elizabeth II has bestowed prestigious honours to two Egyptians in the UK for their outstanding services to the British Society in 2015 as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours list, the British Embassy in Egypt announced.
In a statement published on Saturday, the British Embassy said Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the honours to Dr Nemat Talaat Shafik, deputy governor of the Bank of England, and Bishop Angaelos, General Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK.
Originally from Alexandria, Dr Nemat Shafik has been made a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her services to public administration and the global economy.
Shafik has worked previously as Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and Permanent Secretary of the UK's Department for International Development (DFID). She is currently the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England.
Bishop Angaelos has been made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to international religious freedom.
Born in Cairo, Bishop Angaelos was consecrated a monk by Pope Shenouda III before beginning his pastoral mission in the UK in 1999.
The honours system recognises people who have made achievements in public life and committed themselves to serving and helping Britain.
In 2014, Egyptian-British surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub was awarded the Order of Merit by Queen Elizabeth in the New Year Honours.
