Rumours fly: Zamalek Maqassa match ref resigned under 'terroristic' pressure After Zamalek accused him of making unfair calls in the Maqassa match, referee Yasser Mahmud reportedly ended his career monitoring the green field
Egyptian referee, Yasser Mahmud has reportedly resigned as a result of the pressure brought to bear against him following the contested Zamalek v Maqassa match, where he was accused of making unfair calls. “I can't handle doing my job in this terroristic atmosphere,” Mahmud was quoted as saying in the Egyptian press. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have decided on Thursday to investigate all of Mahmud's supposed refereeing mistakes made during the Zamalek 0-1 defeat against Maqassa. The Cairo giants, Zamalek sparked tension in the EFA after they launched a complaint with a report on all Mahmud's “intentional” mistakes asserting that the referee persecuted the team. They also threatened to withdraw from the competition if the EFA refuses to acquiesce to their call to replay the game. White Castle complain that Mahmud cancelled a penalty for an apparent handball by Maqassa striker Hussein Hamdy and also that he incorrectly disallowed a goal by claiming it was offside. The League Director Ibrahim Hassan accused Yasser Mahmud of holding a personal grudge against him and his twin, tactician, Hossam Hassan, since they had a clash in the field as when they coached Ittisalat last season and had to take it to the police station. Zamalek, who compete for their first league title since 2004, remain on top of the table on 46 points, ahead of arch-rivals Ahly by only one goal after the latter bridged the points gap with a 3-0 victory over Haras El-Hodoud on Wednesday.
