FIFA's embattled president Sepp Blatter said on Tuesday he would resign from his post. "An extraordinary congress is to be called to elect my successor as soon as possible," he told a news conference. "I have thoroughly considered my presidency and thought about my presidency and the last 40 years in my life. "These years were closely related to Fifa and this wonderful sport of football, I appreciate and love Fifa more than anything else and only want to do the best for football and Fifa and our institution." The 79-year-old swiss, who was re-elected as FIFA's head for a fifth term on Friday, said that, as part of reforms, a limit will be imposed on the mandate of the world governing body's president and executive committee members.
