Spinneys, one of the leading retail chains in the Middle East, is opening a new store in Cairo on the 22nd of May. The new store is opening in the Mokattam suburb and is strategically located in the main commercial street, Road 9. It is the company's first store opening in 4 years after operations were disrupted following the 2011 revolution. Spinneys already operates 4 stores in Egypt with 3 located in Cairo and 1 in Hurghada. The store is being opened as part of the company's overall strategy of expanding its existing network to be conveniently close to all its customers. Spinneys CEO, Mohanad Adly, said "We have a very ambitious expansion plan for the Egyptian market over the next 3 years. We will expand our chain in a carefully planned manner to be as close as we could possibly be to all our customers. Our primary objective is to provide maximum convenience to our shoppers". The new store is a 1,400 m2 supermarket which will focus primarily on food but will also offer an extensive range of non-food and general merchandise items. An electronics section will provide a wide range of home and kitchen appliances from TV screens and washing machines to coffee machines and other smaller appliances. More than 20,000 products will be displayed on the grocery shelves and in the fridges that have been imported directly from Europe to ensure the freshness of the fruits & vegetables as well as the meat and deli sections. The staff of 100 employees has been training over the past two months in carefully selecting Spinneys' famous produce and in keeping it fresh in cool hygienic conditions. A full bakery line has been imported from Italy to provide a wide variety of freshly baked breads, croissants and pastries. In June, Spinneys plans to open its second store ahead of the busy Ramadan season.The company is expanding rapidly across Egypt. Five additional stores will be opening before the end of the year, including a new store in Alexandria. By the end of 2015, Spinneys will have added seven new shops to its network bringing it to a total of 11 hypermarkets and supermarkets.
