An explosion caused an electricity pylon to fall in Egypt's Sharqiya governorate early Saturday, which then led to a power outage in the village of Al-Ghafareya. Unknown assailants used four improvised explosives to destroy the pylon, an initial police investigation revealed. Alternate pylons will be used to supply Al-Ghafareya village with electricity until a new pylon is built, the manager of electricity lines in Sharqiya, Hamdy Metwally, told official news agency MENA. A new pylon will take two weeks to build, at a cost of LE1 million (around $131, 000), he added. Since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, militant attacks on security forces and, more recently, on civilian targets have been on the rise.
