Limited fire halts Egypt railway movement, no injuries The head of emergency services in Beni Suef governorate says a train fire was set by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi
A small fire near Egypt's Beni Suef governorate in a train travelling from Aswan to Cairo caused a stoppage in the railway network. The head of emergency services in the governorate, Sami Tawfik, told the police that two train carriages were torched by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, Reuters' Aswat Masriya reported. The fire was brought under control and passengers evacuated. Since the ouster of Morsi in July 2013, supporters have been attempting to sabotage Egypt's rail movement by planting small improvised explosive devices, or sound bombs, on railway tracks. Meanwhile, Egypt has witnessed a significant number of train accidents and fires due to lack of maintenance. In January, over 30 people were injured when four carriages spontaneously caught fire in the Nile Delta governorate of Menoufiya. In October 2014, a huge fire on a train in Sharqiya left one dead.
