A bomb exploded in the village of Samalut in Upper Egypt's Minya governorate late on Thursday, killing two suspects who were allegedly on the way to plant the device, a security source told Aswat Masriya. The unidentified men were planning to plant the bomb by an electricity transformer in one of Samalut's main streets, but the bomb exploded, killing both of them before they had laid it. "The two suspects were shredded and the motorcycle they were on has been completely destroyed," the source said. The bomb has also caused panic among residents of the village. Samalut is home to some of the Christian workers who werebeheadedby IS militants recently in Libya. Egypt has been hit by a rising wave of attacks that have claimed the lives of hundreds of security forces and sometimes civilians. Security facilities and key infrastructure sites in Egypt are regular targets of bombings and attacks by local militant groups. Although the deadliest attacks have been centered in the country's restive Sinai Peninsula and are mostly claimed by the Islamic State-affiliated group, Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, dozens of smaller bombs have been planted nationwide, sometimes in civilian areas. Several sound bombs were found in recent months in metro stations and bus stops. Other fake bombs have been placed in many spots around the capital and other cities. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/123483.aspx
